You need information and or support in daily life?
Fachstelle Migration Zug (FMZ) has been the contact point for migrants arriving in Zug since 1964. Newcomers or existing residents or employees of Canton Zug can enquire about any day to day questions without prior appointment at the Welcome Desk.
The half hour consultations are available in 12 languages: Albanian, Bosnian, German, English, French, Italian, Croatian, Portuguese, Spanish, Tamil, Serbian and Turkish.
The consultations cover all the themes and questions brought about in daily life: Employment and residence law, tenancy, social insurance, schooling and children, relationship issues, etc. Consultations cost CHF 10.- / 20.- for 2 appointments (income dependant).
Referrals to the responsible agencies will be made if the language and content permits.
FMZ also offers German course consultations for those interested. Certified Goethe Institute examiners can – for an additional fee- evaluate the level of German knowledge.
There is a range of information materials in various languages on a variety of themes available in the reception area of the Welcome Desk: from childcare to employment law or old age.

General Information
The Immigration Office (Amt für Migration) in Zug is responsible for federal legalities concerning foreigners in the Canton of Zug. Relating to this, extensive public services are offered to foreign and domestic clients. The Immigration Office in Zug is responsible for the office for foreigners (Fremdenpolizei, for those who want to settle or work here (Einreise / Aufenthalt) and for persons seeking asylum(Asyl).

Moving to Zug / Registration
Individuals of a foreign nationality must register at the Immigration Office within eight days after their first arrival in Zug. Those moving from another canton to the canton of Zug, have to do the same. For the registration the following documents are needed:
- Passport or identity card for nationals of an EU/EFTA Country
- Assurance of residence permit if the employer is in another canton
- 2 passport photos
- Residence Permit for foreigners with confirmation of departure from the previously registered town or municipality
- Proof of medical- and accident insurance
After the registration at the Immigration Office in Zug, the registration will be forwarded to the local Residents’ Registry Office. It is not necessary to show up personally at the Residents’ Registry Office.
Non-EU/EFTA nationals planning to move to Zug are advised to first make their application to the Immigration Office and only to move here once the residence permit has been issued.

Moving within the Canton of Zug / Moving Abroad
Moving within the canton must be officially confirmed by the termination of residence in the previous town at the local Residents’ Registration Office. In this case it is required to present ones residence Permit.

Moving to another Canton
Moving to another canton must officially be confirmed by the termination of residence in your previous town or municipality at the local Residents’ Registry Office. Non-EU/EFTA nationals planning to move to another canton are advised to first make their application to the responsible authorities in the new canton and move there, once the residence permit has been confirmed.
